The Involvement of Iran in the Syrian War
People will usually prefer to have supportive friends during any moment of difficulty. For the whole period that the war has gone on in Syria, Iran has shown steadiness and commitment in provision of support to the Syrian government. There has been great value attached to the presence of Iran in Syria. These two countries may not have too many common interests that they all pursue but it is important that these two governments have come together to help in the regaining of stability in Syria. The move by Iran to help out Syria has been considered a bold one and noble one too.
Syria’s ally, Iran, has continuously provided essential military support over the years. Basically, the most preferred method of delivering these essentials by Iran has been air. This has been coupled with security and intelligence services. Military weapons and other necessities are also provided by the Iranians. Financial support is also granted to a certain level. These security and military support offered to the Syrians has made them a little bit stronger. Iran has volunteered in allowing its own military to go out of its borders to ensure calm and peace among countries that have been affected by war. Iran has also advanced training of its soldiers out of its borders. This move by Iran has made it possible for the current head of state not to be overthrown. This has been observed as a noble move that is fully behind the rights of the people of Syria. Such support has resulted in the advancement of the Iranian economic, social and political agenda.
Supporting the government is usually a bold step taken by an outsider. Iran in Syria has seen it to the support of pro-government militia. These groups of militias have welcomed the idea of Iran being Syria’s ally. This kind of support has allowed Iran to operate with lots of ease within Syrian borders. While on the same issue, Iran has continuously fought both the moderate and extremist factions that are unwanted in Syria. Conquering these factions actually hastens the process of regaining stability. This is not dependent on the person that takes over the government.
Iran is aiming at building a corridor from Iran to Lebanon. The corridor is to go through Iraq and Syria. The corridor provides a connection to the Mediterranean. It will allow for the easy and convenient movement of Iranian-allied soldiers, Iranian soldiers and weapons. This will grow both Syria’s ally, Iran, Iran and Syria itself. By this, it would be even more beneficial for Iran as it will further grow her influence in the region.
